Blog SEO – Publicising Your Blog

icon1 kshirley | icon2 Uncategorized | icon4 January 16, 2009| icon32 Comments »

The deadlines have been set. I’ve got 1 week to update the sections on SEO and publicising your blog for the IIA Blogging whitepaper. A major part of it will be from the comments people made on the draft copy that was made available online and the comments made during the workshop. The podcasts are also available if you are interested.

If you have anything you think should be included – be quick and let me know. Shortly after the deadline the version will be locked and sent for print. Online versions will be available sooner I’m sure – but people still need a copy in their hands.

I have a question, it’s more practical… Is it better to host your own blog, or to be part of a blogging network? In the link in my signature you can see I wrote about it more on IGOpeople.

My hunch lately has been that more and more services only work with popular blog networks; they are interoperable. There is more chance for serendipity & better findability.

Unless a business is reusing the blog content in other parts of their site… why host their own blog? Even then, why not just import needed content via the feed or API and reuse…

If I’m asked to set up a blog for a company, I can’t decide what is best. What do you think?

I had a look at your post but I’m still 100% convinced that for the majority of businesses the best way to go is to host the blog within their own site.

At least that way they gain any advantages from people linking to them and they have complete flexibility.

I don’t think the hosted platforms give an impression of being cheap. Regarding building up a community – if the hosted platforms are working so hard to lock you in it’s probably going to get difficult to reuse your content on other platforms.
